Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, November 19, 2008.

A low pressure system will move from the Northern Plains and into the Great Lakes on Wednesday. The system will trigger snow in Canada, which will reach into northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan as the system tracks southeast throughout the day. Expect 6 to 10 inches of lake effect snow with gusty conditions in the north.

To the south, a cold front will extend over the Central and Southern Plains on Wednesday. This will push below seasonal temperatures into these regions, however, the front is not expected to trigger any precipitation.

In New England, lake effect snow will dissipate by noon on Wednesday. In northern New York, expect 2 to 5 inches, with higher snow accumulations at higher elevations. Whiteout conditions are also likely as snow may be heavy at times, falling at 1 inch per hour. Expect cool temperatures to continue to pour in from Canada, with near freezing highs remaining.

The Southeast will continue to be dominated by a high pressure system on Wednesday. This will bring windy and cool conditions to the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf states. High temperatures will only reach into the 50s and record breaking overnight lows are expected as temperatures will dip below freezing.

In the West, a low pressure system will approach the Pacific Northwest from the Gulf of Alaska. However, a dominating ridge of high pressure will keep the region dry on Wednesday. The approaching system will bring partly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures to the region. Also expect cooler temperatures in California as the system pushes cool oceanic air onshore. Fires will continue to threaten southern California as strong winds and dry surface conditions persist.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 2 degrees at Upson, Wis. to a high of 93 degrees at Riverside, Calif.
